Managing Director, Gauntlet Risk Management

Roger established Gauntlet Risk Management Ltd in 1994, founding Gauntlet Health & Safety Ltd shortly afterwards. Having several years experience working for two large insurance companies in underwriting and sales roles, Roger had a substantial knowledge and in-depth experience of the insurance and health and safety markets, and this continues to be the foundations of the business today.

Roger’s main role, these days, is managing the continued growth of the business and he spends an equal amount of time consulting on health & safety issues and overseeing the insurance arrangements of our larger corporate clients.

Roger is a bit of an adrenaline junkie and, when he’s not studying for more qualifications, he’s likely to be found jumping out of planes, scuba diving, horse riding, or hurtling down a mountain on his snowboard.

Ian McCarron

Ian McCarron

Director, Gauntlet Risk Management

Ian has been part of the Gauntlet team for over ten years, having previously worked in an underwriting capacity for Royal & SunAlliance.

Ian’s first remit at Gauntlet was that of acquiring new business and servicing the existing client base, whilst also developing the business.  Ian has a great ability to focus on his clients’ needs, whilst helping them overcome any challenges they may encounter. Having gained qualifications from the Chartered Institute of Insurance, International Institute of Risk & Safety Management and Institute of Occupational Safety & Health, Ian is expertly placed to be able to provide in-depth advice to our clients, with regard to any risk management scenario.

In 2014 Ian joined the board as a director, responsible for the management of the internal broking and sales teams and also the health and safety/risk management function.

Ian is a sports fanatic and can often be found playing golf, or out running in a charity fund-raising event. When not in his running shoes, Ian enjoys spending time with family, travelling and socialising.

Andrew Scott

Health & Safety Business Development Manager

Andrew returned for his second spell at Gauntlet in 2016, with a remit to increase health and safety new business. With 30 years’ experience of the insurance and health & safety markets, Andrew is expertly placed to lead the development of our fleet and general risk management strategies, products and services.

Andrew works closely with the insurance team, ensuring that the range and delivery of our services is focused on providing each client with the practical help they need to overcome the challenges they face, whilst also supporting the management of their insurance programme, in particular, improving claims defensibility systems and documents.
Away from work, Andrew is a keen sports fan and has followed the fortunes and misfortunes of Leeds United and Yorkshire County Cricket Club for many years. Andrew is also an active member of his local village community, helping with the organisation of regular village events, as well as supporting the local pub.

James O’Brien

James O’Brien

Health and Safety Consultant

James graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University in 2014 with a BSc (Hons) in Environmental Health. He landed himself a job straight out of university working for a large food, fire and health and safety firm where he gained substantial experience in multi-site risk assessments and audits, working with clients such as Ikea, Radisson Blu, Holiday Inn Express, Hilton by Hampton, YoSushi and many more. James also has experience in developing food safety management systems and health and safety management systems.

In his spare time, James enjoys baking, reading, or a fight to the death on the Xbox.

Brian Goulding

Brian Goulding

Health and Safety Consultant

Brian worked for a number of years in management roles within the manufacturing industry and then, unusually, changed direction, realising a passion for health & safety after becoming a qualified fork-lift truck instructor/examiner.

Brian quickly gained his NEBOSH General Certificate and NVQ Level 5 Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety, which led to him becoming a Graduate member for IOSH, (Institution for Occupational Safety and Health), and a full member of IIRSM (International Institution for Risk Safety Management).

After working in Health & Safety roles in manufacturing, warehousing and distribution and the voluntary and community sector, he joined Gauntlet as a Health & Safety Consultant in April 2015.

He is currently working towards Chartered status for IOSH and Fellowship status for IIRSM.

Outside of work, Brian enjoys spending time with his family, socialising and enjoying a number of sports including football, horseracing, skiing and cycling.

Amy Bell

Amy joined Gauntlet early 2015, a pioneer on the apprenticeship scheme. She has quickly progressed from a junior role to focusing on administrative duties for the appointed representatives.

In her spare time, she will either be found binge watching Netflix shows, keeping fit, travelling or socialising with her friends.

Jodie Clarke

Administrator

Jodie joined Gauntlet in 2010 having previously worked for Yorkshire Bank. She started with as Administrative support for the internal Account Executives in the insurance services division, but now provides support to all arms of the business. Jodie is currently studying for her Cert CCI insurance exam.

In her spare time Jodie likes to spend time with her Family, especially her little boy, Harry. She also enjoys going for long walks with her crazy cocker spaniel, Oscar.
